    Yummy ice cream! Fun place to stop while in Mount Pleasant, MI. We were pleased with our selections (chocolate ice cream on a cone, chocolate skinny dip, carmel sundae, and mackinaw chocolate ice cream on a cone).

    Doozies Ice Cream is one of the greatest places in the world. THE WORLD. Do yourself a favor and get a turtle artic swirl. If that's not your fancy there are about a million other flavors and selections. This place is a Mt Pleasant staple and is always packed for a good reason!

    A fun local place! I live in Seattle but come to visit the in-laws in Mt. P. We always make it to Doozies. If you're lucky Mr. Doozie himself will be there. In a town full of generic chain places it's refreshing to patronize a locally establishment. Highly recommended.

    After hearing so much good stuff about Doozies from my sister in law, we finally went yesterday while the hubby was watching the NFL draft. They have everything from slushees, blizzards, soft serve, handmade ice cream and sundaes. I decided to go with an Arctic Chill which is much like a blizzard from Dairy Queen or a McFlurry. I got mine with chocolate chip cookie dough and mint flavoring. So delicious. I instantly regretted my choice of size medium, but I soon remembered that it meant the goodness could last for another day. My sister in law and hubby also got Arctic Chills. His with Reese's and Heath bar and hers with Reese's and Snickers. The soft serve vanilla ice cream that the swirls come with is better than any other soft serve I have had. I see why so many people wait until the Spring for this place to open to enjoy some cold goodness. Since we live pretty close, I told my husband that if we ever want it again we have to walk there.

    I still don't get it... This place is so popular locally, you'd think they were handing out money! Doozies is simply an outdoor ice cream stand. That's it. There is no indoor seating, but there are some plastic tables and picnic tables scattered out front. There is no menu beyond ice cream (cones, sundaes, shakes, etc.). As for the ice cream, it is identical to that which you would find at any one of hundreds of similar mom-and-pop places across the state. It's not that it's bad... It's just that it is nothing special, and certainly not special enough to account for the tremendous lines that wait in front of Doozies all summer long. It is mass-produced soft-serve ice cream, with a variety of toppings you can choose. It does not hold a candle to the creamy, sugar-infused masterpieces sold at Cold Stone. To be honest, I also prefer the uber carb-infused soft-serve at Dairy Queen over Doozies. It's not that Doozie's is bad, but it's nothing special. Doozies is generic soft-serve, like the kind you got at your local mid-western ice cream shop when you were a kid. The perplexing popularity of this place becomes an issue when it comes to parking. Their lot is far too small for the crowds they attract. People often park next door (in what used to be a vacant lot, but is now an auto parts store). The service, like the ice cream, is also average. Doozie's employees tend to be very young females. They aren't particularly friendly, or unfriendly. So why does Doozies have a line in front of its window from open-to-close all summer? I have some theories: 1) It is local (not part of a larger chain of stores). It has the run-down aura (hand-written menu signs) of 1970s/80s local ice cream parlors. 2) It is in a good location, with a high traffic count. 3) Unlike the other ice cream stores in town, Doozies is only open in the summer, thus giving it the appeal of limited availability 4) It is one of those locals places that you're "supposed" to like if you live in town. Legend has overshadowed reality. Most locals are not objective about this place. 5) I believe the owners are actually wizards who sell their average ice cream to muggles, and they use magic to convince almost everyone in town that Doozies is the greatest ever. BOTTOM LINE: Decent/average soft-serve, cramped parking, long lines, only open in the summer. [Also know that I'm risking my reputation with fellow locals by daring to call this local icon "average", but I call them like I see them!}

    My fav place! Every time I'm in town I stop here. Never had a bad tasting anything. Whatever you order is going to be good so just go for it.

    On a day where it was windy and 60 degrees I have never had ice cream that melted as fast as this. My sundae was soup in a matter of a minute. My husbands blizzard was really good though. I guess it didn't particularly stand out to me though, but nevertheless it was good.

    Good local ice cream run by a friendly, high-energy staff. Their skinny-dip is apparently quite good (says my girlfriend; I don't eat low-fat dishes). The only issue I can see is the parking during busy hours - it could get quite hectic.
